So those who know me on a personal level will know 2018 was a pretty tough one for me physically & mentally as a result. Various injuries picked up on these charity events (going as far back as the 2016 London-Paris cycle) finally caught up with me and, out-with the RideLondon event, I had to take the year off to recuperate.
The aforementioned cycle went fine – albeit not the most enjoyable as it rained from about Mile 10 all the way to Mile 100 and my Flag got absolutely wrecked.
On a positive note – I’m in a much better place health wise following extensive work with @DVC Massage Therapist Deborah Cable and the weight I’ve put on over the last 12 months is beginning to shift; down from 96kgs to 91kgs at the moment and aiming to be at the 85 mark come event number one in April.
That brings me on nicely to the events planned this year and it’s certainly a busy one;
Sunday 7th April – Manchester Marathon.
Sunday 26th May – Liverpool Marathon.
Saturday 21st September – London Swim Serpentine.
Saturday 9th – 16th November – Sahara Desert Trek.
The first 2 events I will be jointly fundraising for CLIC Sargent & the Well Balanced – Mindfulness & Relaxation Studio for Children & Families (a studio set-up by Donna Fairley who passed away suddenly last year). The GoFundMe page has been set-up and on my personal page.
The Swim Serpentine is the last of the 3 London Classic events; (London Marathon & RideLondon having already been completed) and the first time I’ll have done any sort of open water swimming so that will be interesting.
Finally – the Sahara Desert trek is a 5 day event, taking in over 100km of sand dunes and camping under the stars along the way…. Given the underfoot conditions, I imagine that 100km+ is going to feel like double that :’) haha.
So that’s me for the time-being – keep an eye out for fundraising events over the next 12 months as I aim to reach the £15,000 mark for @CLIC Sargent this year, lining me up nicely for the big Sumatra Jungle Trek next year. At the moment I still can’t touch the smallest of spiders so let’s hope I learn how to man up pretty quickly otherwise this is going to be a full on nightmare.
A massive thanks to all my Flag Sponsors and I will shout you all out again individually over the coming months as the Flag continues to grow and make public appearances around the globe! Ha
